Q1. Read the following poem extract and answer the questions that follow:[JAC-2011]
Now we will come to twelve
And we will all keep still
For once on the face of the earth
Let’s not speak in any language,
Let’s stop for one second,
And not move our arm so much.

Ans. This stanza has been referred for the readers including himself.

B. What does the poet ask in the second line?

Ans.
The poet urges that we should cease all activities for a second. People keep quiet and not speak in any language. By doing so peace is ensured.

about keeping ourselves ,
and for once could do nothing, perhaps a huge silence
might interrupt this sadness

b. Why does the poet wants to do nothing?
Ans. The poet wants us to do nothing because people pursue single-mindedly on keeping their lives moving. The poet suggests that it would be better if they give themselves rest for sometime. For once they may do nothing.

c. Explain how man understands himself.
Ans. According to the poet men fail to understand themselves. They are always threatening themselves with death. When they realize this they become sad and helpless. Only a huge silence can interrupt this sadness and can be good to men. Therefore men understand him selves to have peace or silence.

Ans. Fisherman catch fish, particular whales in the cold seas.
C. What would the salt gathering man do?
Ans. The man gathering salt with his own hands must take care of his hurt hands.

d. What should fisherman not do?
Ans. The fisherman should not burt or injuries the whales in the seas.
e. Why do fisherman go to the sea?
Ans. The Fisherman usually go to the sea for catching fish particularly whales in the cold sea.

Q4. What will counting upto twelve and keeping still help up to achieve? [JAC-2012]
Ans. The poet urges us counting upto twelve and keeping still. Perhaps ‘twelve’ here represents the twelve hour-marks on the clock. Most of the ills and troubles of the world were caused because of our rush and hurry. Keeping still will give us the necessary respite for peace.

Q5. According to Pablo Neruda would to be an exotic moment? [JAC-2014, 2017]
Ans. Unnecessary rush and noise has made living unpleasant and troublesome. The poet wants that people may stop rushing and running. Even the noise of engines and machines must stop at once. If it happens, that moment would be an exotic or a fascinating moment. All of us will enjoy the sudden strangeness or uniqueness of that moment.
